JESUS IS ‘THE WORD,’ [‘LOGOS’ IN GREEK] ISAIAH 55: 10-11 TELLS US:“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and return not thither but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and prosper in the thing for which I sent it.______________________________________________________ God’s word affects what it says“Let there be light, and there was light.”- Gen. 1:3God speaks the world into being. His word makes it what it is. His Word makes things happen.God speaks and it is. His Word is never spoken in vain, but accomplishes its purpose.God’s Word makes reality in its deepest possible level.God continually brings into being, by his great act of speech, the Universe into totality. This is why we do not inhabit a chaos, we inhabit a cosmos; because we have this great intelligent creator who is continually speaking the Word into being. The Universe therefore is not chaotic, it has great order. It is intelligible, it has a pattern, it has meaning. Jesus will change the way things are.The divine word accomplishes what it says:
John 11:43-44 - “Lazarus come out.” And the dead man came out. Matt. 5:41 - “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And the dead girl arose. John 13:8 - “If I do not wash you, you have no part in me.”[B-2:50] Matt. 28:19 - “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” [B-3:33]
John 20:21 - 21: Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”
THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS, THE WORD, ON THE HOLY EUCHARIST
PERSONA CHRISTI "In order to understand what it means for the priest to act in persona Christi Capitis in the person of Christ the Head and to realize what consequences derive from the duty of representing the Lord, especially in the exercise of these three offices, it is necessary first of all to explain what "representation" means. The priest represents Christ. What is implied by "representing" someone? In ordinary language it usually means being delegated by someone to be present in his place, to speak and act in his stead because the person he represents is absent from the practical action. Let us ask ourselves: does the priest represent the Lord in this way? The answer is no, because in the Church Christ is never absent, the Church is his living Body and he is the Head of the Church, present and active within her. Christ is never absent, on the contrary he is present in a way that is untrammelled by space and time ... Therefore the priest, who acts in persona Christi Capitis and representing the Lord, never acts in the name of someone who is absent but, rather, in the very Person of the Risen Christ, who makes himself present with his truly effective action. He really acts today and brings about what the priest would be incapable of: the consecration of the wine and the bread so that they may really be the Lord's presence, the absolution of sins. The Lord makes his own action present in the person who carries out these gestures." - Pope Benedict XVI, GENERAL AUDIENCE
THE INSTITUTION OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST Matt. 26:26-28 - 26 Now as they were eating,[a] Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” 27 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you; 28 for this is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
John 6:20, 35-36, 40 - Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
John 6:47-51- 47Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that a man may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread[c] which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.”
John 6:52-5852 - The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”[d] 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; 54 he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.”
