The term meditation, comes from the Latin word meditatum, which means "to ponder." This word entered the Latin language around 1200 A.D. to describe the ancient practice of pondering in the heart things relating to the essence and love of our Divine Creator. The ancient Apostle Luke records in Sacred Scripture that the Blessed Virgin Mary pondered such things in her heart. Countless saints, mystics and sages have supernaturally meditated with our Lady, Queen of the Angels, ever since.
Our Lady promised special Heavenly graces for the contemplative adornment of her Médaille Miraculeuse, a sacramental she designed during her 19th Century Paris apparition to Saint Catherine Laboure.
Since that time, Saint Theresa of Calcutta, Saint Maxmillian Kolbe and many others have witnessed miracles of grace through this devotion. The ancient Angelic Salutation, both a textual meditation and plea for Our Lady's intercession, derives from the words of Sacred Scripture and has become a part of several other ancient meditations.
