​MEDITATION PRAYER LOCKETS 

Among the oldest known amulets were meditation prayer lockets worn around the neck. 
The wearer would write down a meditation or prayer on a piece of papyrus, and then
​fold the script until it was small enough to fit inside the locket.  

The oldest prayer locket excavated, dates back to 6th century Egypt, 
and is inscribed with the following text:
