The Jasper gemstone is assigned to the Angelic order of the Thrones.
The God-bearing Thrones (as St Dionysius the Areopagite calls them) stand before Him Who sits on the high and exulted throne, being named "Thrones" since on them, as on intellectual thrones (as writes St Maximus the Confessor) God intellectually resides.
The Thrones are called "God-bearing" according to grace, given for their service, through which they bear God in themselves. Residing through them in an incomprehensible manner, God makes His righteous judgement; described in the words of King David: "Thou hast sat upon a throne, O Thou that judges righteousness." (Ps 9:4). Through the Thrones God's justice is pre-eminently manifested; they serve His justice, glorify it and help God's authorities on earth to bring forth right judgement.
